Age

It’s not just a number, not at all.

I had no way of knowing that making the promises was the unwise part. They were normal promises made to a normal person.

I thought they were normal, because I was young and foolish. I was wise in some ways, yes. But I was very much a product of my years when I made arrogant promises about the forest without being able to see the trees.

The wisdom was not in the half a decade of turning two puzzle pieces around and around to see how they might fit. No, the wisdom was in the moment I chose to break every promise that I ever made.

It wasn’t normal, and the trees were sickly at any rate.
